Till this moment with notebooks did not face, concerned them with a prejudice, including their nonfunctional and excessively expensive in comparison with desktop systems (a notebook this opinion practically has not changed possession).

Originally it was necessary to be defined with the corporation-manufacturer. At cost computers of ACER corporations, DELL, ASUS and TOSHIBA were the most suitable. However at more detailed matching under the main characteristics it became clear, that production of ACER corporations and ASUS at identical functionality is comparable in the price.

Eventually, the choice has fallen on ASUS corporation notebook, but responses about model f5r which was considered for acquisition, for that moment was not. Moreover, even on an official site of the manufacturer there was no information on a product in the given modification. Running forwards, I will tell, that with a notebook as a whole it is happy, except for those moments on which I will stop later.

Opening a box.

After long driving on computer compartments of a city, matching of the prices and opinions of sellers-advisers has stopped on “a computer supermarket” (as they call themselves). Long survey of models and consultation of “experts” were completed by that we have stopped (we are I and approximately half of employees of compartment which with boredom were actively connected to choice process) on model ASUS F5R. Having included the computer next day, has independently tried to start to work. That has unpleasantly surprised the first - an easy creak of tank of a notebook and its “flexibility”. Accustoming to it will occupy not less than 2 weeks. Therefore, without thinking twice, has installed office - 2003. Only after that the notebook more or became less suitable for operation.

Notebook ASUS F5R is equipped by 15,4 inch display with the permission 1280х800 points, with firm technology of image enhancement (a so-called “glass” matrix) providing bright and juicy colours. Other aspect of mobility is linked to the geometrical sizes. In the opened state the model has such sizes what to use it in the car rather inconveniently. For example, a touchpad to use extremely inconveniently. Therefore in this case “the size matters”.

The third aspect of mobility - operation time from the battery. In considered model the battery has capacity 4400. It is enough of it for operation in office applications till 2 o’clock 40 minutes (at the minimum brightness of the display), or till 2 o’clock 20 minutes of surfing on the Internet through a mobile phone and bluetooth. In spite of the fact that the computer has some the preinstalled circuits of energo-savings, it is essential to increase given time it is impossible. Thus productivity of system inevitably falls. If you work in the car, purchase of the automobile converter can become problem solution. Be thus convinced, that power of the inverter at least twice exceeds power of a current consumed by a notebook. It stably works and practically does not heat up during 4 - 5 hours.

Notebook F5R has 4 ports USB that is very good. But they are allocated rather unsuccessfully. One port on a back part, more to the left from centre. Others three - on the left side. As a result at connection of the mouse the cord should be pulled from right to left, and it crosses and is frequently confused with a cord of a power supply unit which is connected in the right part of a back side. The right side of a notebook practically empty, except for tray DVD of a drive. On a front side there are two speakers. They not especially loud, but pass music and a film soundtrack is quite comprehensible. Further it is allocated maps-readers (7 in 1). All popular formats except CF (itself checked only SD and MMC) are supported. A model touchpad big and convenient (if the statement “convenient” can be applied to this device) with function of vertical scrolling (demands accustoming). The second. 90 % of all problems arise because of frankly crude OS of Whist. And first of all because the most part of the programs necessary for operation, with it “are not on friendly terms”.

Also be ready to that the notebook will boot very long. From the moment of inclusion till the moment of loading of the last service (the service of upgrades of OS) and appearance of the information that new upgrades are accessible, there pass 5 minutes 11 seconds!!! Certainly, it is possible to disable the majority of services and applications, but it is essential to accelerate loading not to turn out. Therefore skilfully use a dream mode. Do not hurry up to instal all upgrades which to you are offered by system. Some unsuccessful upgrades can essentially brake system operation. Upgrades of system of safety are important only.

The third. The part preinstalled ON should be removed. So I had to take down Office 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2007. Certainly, Norton - a strong antivirus, but that at any connection to the Internet the program climbs behind upgrades, not looking at installation of the hand-held schedule of upgrades, infuriates. “In the beginning of September Sony announced new notebook VAIO VGN SZ-74B/B with a hybrid hard disk and GeForce 8400GM. Start of sales is planned for the beginning of October, the price yet is not underlined”. It was all information which to me managed to be found in Russian, already holding in hands this notebook.

The Idea to gain something with 13th diagonal visited me for a long time already, and a scattered disk and the keyboard filled in with coffee on old Samsung’е stimulated my searches. It is necessary to be saved only of the Japanese heritage in the form of the keyboard and localised Vista.By the evening I become the happy owner “Russian national” keyboards. Now about impressions. The strict and stylish design of a notebook practically does not differ from the previous models of series SZ. It is the upper cover from black carbonaceous rough plastic, the black keyboard and the aluminium panel. In a notebook there is nothing glossy where usually there could be fat prints of fingers. Difference from the previous models - a certain cover on the right on the aluminium panel. Its assignment remains a riddle, the instruction on this occasion is silent. The quantity of “bulbs” on the upper panel moderate is a power supply, the battery, HDD, WLAN and Bluetooth. Also there is a power supply button, the switch of wireless networks, switch Stamina-Speed and two soft keys S1 and S2.

It is possible to name communication possibilities of a notebook settling - it is equipped almost by all necessary ports for today and units. The keyboard full-size, a course of keys soft and accurate. At typing any discomfort did not feel, it thus, that printed a ten-manual method of the press. The touchpad usual to use it, as always, it is inconvenient (I recommend to buy at once at notebook purchase the mouse). Have very much pleased additional multimedia touch buttons (back, stop, playback/pause, forwards, sound disconnecting to reduce loudness to raise loudness). For their usage it is not necessary to instal an additional software, all works «on hurrah» in all players. It is very convenient to control playback by operation with the keyboard.

The device was delivered without the operating system if, of course, not to consider a disk with FreeDOS. The better - it is not necessary to overpay for Windows Vista from which there is not enough advantage and many “brakes”. A zraza Win XP SP2 operating system has been installed. That all has passed without problems, in BIOS it was necessary to expose hard disk SATA operating mode. Further it was necessary «to look on Internet open spaces» in search of the necessary drivers. On a site of the manufacturer it is declared, that drivers under the given operating system are not present. However the necessary sites were fast, the blessing of the enthusiasts working under XP with new computers, not too is not enough. Almost all equipment was installed and worked as it is necessary, except for Audio Device on High Definition Bus (searches of solution of a problem proceed) though the sound works perfectly.

I wish to mark convenient implementation of a cardreader. There are no superfluous additional disks. All works like a card: the memory map is inserted into a cardreader, and in system at once there is a new device and one more disk increases.

On a compact set a disk applied on a notebook were available the driver only for Windows Vista.

All input\output ports are allocated on each side and on the front panel.

Are on the left side allocated: 2 USB port, the plug for a power supply unit, D-Sub, Rj-45, RJ-11, HDMI and IEEE 1394a. On the right side: 2 USB port, S-video. Bluetooth works on hurrah, any complexity in customisation of phone for usage for the Internet, to transfer or receptions of files has not tested. Unfortunately, WiFi unit to check up it has not turned out, as the second computer with this unit was not near at hand.

These digits, of course, well display productivity, but I wish to mark, that all office applications, Photoshop, Corel Draw work quickly enough and provide comfort in operation. If productivity does not suffice, always it is possible to increase quantity of the RAM to 4 GB. With games the situation is much worse: because of the card built in by video modern games can not to try be started at all though games 2-3х summer prescription pretty well work. The notebook cannot brag of long operation from the battery - the charge has sufficed only for 59 minutes of performance of test Battery Eater. In a usual operating mode of the battery suffices approximately at 1,1-1,5 o’clock.

Time of a complete charge of the accumulator makes approximately 80-90 minutes.

For me at a notebook choice the given metric was not solving, therefore I was not strongly afflicted.

It is necessary to mark, that the notebook power supply unit has the form unusual, at first sight, - with slightly pressed end faces. Even cannot present, as it is convenient to wrap up an electrical wire round such power supply unit! Neither will slide off, nor it will be unwound. Especially, if a wire to tighten an elastic plait with a fastener, attached to power supply unit tank.

The conclusion

I consider, that has gained a successful notebook. It will approach those to whom operation with any documents and that to whom long operation from the battery is unimportant is important. As the main disadvantage I consider low power of the processor, but for so small sum (cost makes about 14500 rivers) it quite enough. Also I consider as plus absence of the preinstalled operating system.

Complete set

In a box except the notebook and the documentation was four disks with the software, the battery, the charge device, a telephone wire, a rag for rubbing of the screen and a small mouse with logo ASUS. The mouse at first especially was not pleasant to me: too small, not the convenient. But I fast to it have got used, and it is now more convenient than this mouse not to find, probably. By the way, already later at numerous forums I have learnt, that in a complete set of notebooks a mouse, as a rule, does not enter. The given circumstance has pleased me: «a trifle, and it is pleasant». But at the same forums I have clarified, that with it in a package should go also a bag for transportation and as a bag to me have not given the given fact has a little upset me. Summing up, I wish to tell, that all insignificant disadvantages of the given device, are simply imperceptible in comparison with advantages.
